Care and Cope Project
(KA210-ADU)

Το πλήρες όνομα του έργου είναι “Care and Cope: Nurturing resilience and self-care in women carers facing loss and life's pivotal changes” και υλοποιείται στο πλαίσιο των Small-scale Partnerships in Adult Education (KA210-ADU), με τη συμμετοχή οργανισμών από τη Μάλτα, την Ελλάδα και την Κύπρο: Women Elevation Malta, Μαθήματα Ζωής και The Serendipitous Black Cloud Ltd.

Care and Cope Project
(KA210-ADU)

Care & Cope is an Erasmus+ project focusing on women who take on caregiving roles and on the often invisible impact that care can have on their lives, relationships, work, identity and emotional well-being.

The project’s full title is “Care and Cope: Nurturing resilience and self-care in women carers facing loss and life's pivotal changes”. It is implemented within the Erasmus+ Small-scale Partnerships in Adult Education (KA210-ADU) framework by partner organisations in Malta, Greece and Cyprus: Women Elevation Malta, Mathimata Zois and The Serendipitous Black Cloud Ltd.

For Mathimata Zois, participation in Care & Cope is closely connected with a core area of our work: recognising losses that are not necessarily connected with a death, yet can significantly reshape a person’s life. Long-term caregiving can be accompanied by exhaustion, guilt, changes in relationships, reduced personal choices, changes in working life, shifts in identity and grief for what has changed, been postponed or could no longer happen.

What we have achieved so far

The collaboration between the three partner organisations began with the project meeting in Malta, where the foundations were laid for coordination, division of roles and the development of the Care & Cope resources.

In June 2026, representatives of all three organisations met in Athens, Greece, for a three-day Train-the-Trainer Event. The event focused on applying the Care & Cope methodology and preparing those who will use the project resources in their own communities. Key areas included empathy and communication, creating safe spaces, managing group dynamics and conflict, adapting activities to different contexts, and evaluating participants’ learning experience.

At the same time, the partnership has developed the Training Manual for Women Carers, a supportive educational resource created for women with caregiving responsibilities. The manual recognises caregiving as a complex lived experience and creates space for themes such as guilt, exhaustion, grief, resentment, identity, boundaries and the difficulty of maintaining space for one’s own needs. It includes practical tools and reflective activities that can be used at an individual pace, without suggesting that there is one “right” way to experience caregiving.

The partnership has also developed the Guide for Practitioners, a practical trauma-informed resource for professionals and community workers supporting women carers, including group facilitators, social workers, mental health professionals and other support professionals. The guide offers a flexible framework for safe, inclusive and non-judgmental work around caregiving, loss, roles, boundaries and emotional burden. Particular attention is given to safety, choice, respect and to maintaining a clear distinction between educational/supportive work and therapeutic intervention.

The public release of the project resources is the next important step for Care & Cope, enabling women carers, professionals and organisations to access and use the material more widely.

The next phase

Care & Cope is now moving from resource development into implementation. In the coming period, partners will continue with workshops and activities for women carers and professionals, putting the methodology into practice, gathering feedback and strengthening the potential for the project resources to remain useful beyond the funded period.

We are also preparing for the next collaboration meeting in Cyprus, which will provide an important opportunity to review progress, coordinate the final phase and continue building a shared approach across Malta, Greece and Cyprus.

For Mathimata Zois, Care & Cope is also an opportunity to make a frequently invisible experience more visible: people who provide care also need space, language, boundaries, recognition and support.

We will continue to share upcoming activities, resources and project results through this page.
